Blackpool fire chief gives video update on Squires Gate warehouse fire

Eight fire engines and the aerial ladder platform were deployed to the site, near Aldi and Squires Gate Retail Park, at 5.24am.
A spokesman for Lancashire fire service said "faulty machinery" is believed to have caused the fire, which involved large amounts of recyclable materials.

Hide AdIncident Commander Lister Haworth, speaking to the Gazette from the scene, said a full investigation is underway.
He added that the fire is now out and no injuries have been reported, but two fire engines remain at the scene whilst assessments are carried out.
Fire crews from Blackpool South Shore, Bispham, Fleetwood, St Annes and Preston were called out to tackle the fire.
The incident has not led to any traffic delays in the area and no roads have been closed.

He said: "Crews were called to the building at around 5.30am due to smoke issuing from the roof.
"Crews made a speedy entry into the premises and managed to locate the seat of the fire using breathing apparatus.

Hide Ad"We managed to contain the fire and extinguish it. At present we are damping down the fire and will probably be here for a number of hours.
"We have now down-scaled the incident to a couple of fire appliances and we are now undertaking the fire investigation into the cause of the fire.

"At 05:24, eight fire engines from Blackpool, St Annes, Bispham, Fleetwood, Preston, and South Shore, an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool, and an incident command unit from Fulwood attended a commercial building fire on Squires Gate Lane, Blackpool.
"The fire involved recyclable materials inside a warehouse approximately 90x100m in size.

Hide Ad"Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one hose reel jet to combat the fire. No injuries were reported.
"Crews remain in attendance at this time but the fire is now out. Scene assessments are ongoing."
