Blackpool lifeboat crews and Coastguard rescue multiple groups of people cut off by tide

Blackpool's RNLI volunteers and HM Coastguard were called out to rescue multiple groups of people cut off by the incoming tide yesterday evening (June 2).

The reports came in at around 6.30pm as the rapidly incoming tide caught people off guard.

All three of Blackpool's RNLI lifeboats were launched to rescue a group of men who had been cut off by the rising tide near Bispham.

Rescue teams arrived quickly at the scene and four men were pulled from the water and brought safely back to shore.

They were handed over to HM Coastguard who checked them over before the men received additional treatment from waiting paramedics.

The Coastguard was also called to help other people who had got into difficulty in the water around Manchester Square, Starr Gate and Norbreck.

Rescue teams then began patrolling the coast and clearing the beach of others who were in danger of becoming stranded from the incoming tide.

A spokesman for RNLI Blackpool said: "Please be beach safe and remember that the tides at Blackpool this weekend will be bigger and will come in faster.

"The sea is unforgiving even on the sunniest of days, please take care when visiting our coastline.

"Stay alert, protect your family and dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you get into difficulty."

Just 24 hours earlier on Monday evening (June 1), rescue teams were called out to help a number of people cut off by the tide at North Pier.

HM Coast Guard and Blackpool Beach Patrol managed to reach the group and direct them to safety before they were caught out by the incoming tide.

Minutes later, they were then diverted to the Anchorsholme area to help more people who had found themselves quickly cut off.

Several people were found struggling to wade back to shore and were pulled onboard the lifeboats.

Rescue teams then made their way south to Norbreck where they rescued more people stranded on the sandbanks.
