The recent extension of the Fylde Citizens Advice Bureau has provided a boost to the service which shares the same premises – Fylde Foodbank’s Kirkham depot.
Fylde Council, landlords of the CAB premises in Moor Street, originally gave permission to use the space on a temporary basis two years ago.
Now, with the CAB growing to occupy both floors of the building, as we reported last week, the Foodbank’s arrangement to use part of the ground floor now been put on a more formal footing.
Linda Nulty, a former Fylde mayor who was one of the trustees responsible for setting up Fylde Foodbank, manages the Kirkham depot,
She said: “We are very grateful to Fylde Council for allowing this to go forward for both services.
“It helps that the Foodbank is in the same building as the CAB, as we can refer clients for help if needed very quickly and easily. The CAB can also refer people in need to us for an immediate food parcel when necessary.”
As with the other Fylde Foodbanks at St Annes and Warton, there is a regular flow of demand for the service at the Kirkham depot and Linda added: “The positioning of the Foodbank in a central location, with easy access to transport links and bus services, was one of the main aims in choosing the right location.
“The clients come from a variety of locations across the rural areas and with differing needs. All have been referred to the Foodbank via local agencies such as Citizens Advice, the Council, doctors, and children’s centres which provide them with a voucher for food.
“We are fortunate that almost all the churches in rural Fylde are extremely generous in donating items for the Foodbank, as are several businesses and individuals in the area, and the whole of Fylde.”
When the clients arrive they are quickly put at ease by Linda and her small band of volunteers. After a welcoming cup of tea and a friendly chat they are given a three day supply of food to see them over their crisis.
The Kirkham Foodbank is open every Monday and Friday from 10.30am to 2pm for the redemption of vouchers. Details from 07592 542670.
