Cash boost to help protect women at risk

Lancashire Women’s Centre has been given £157,871 as part of an announcment by Justice Minister Dr Phillip Lee.

The charity, whose Blackpool centre is one of five across the county, will use the cash to provide tailored support to women at risk of crime or in the criminal justice system.

Chief executive Sarah Swindley said: “We know that there are gaps in service provision relating to both need and geography and we will aim to address this, further protecting women, communities and families.”

Dr Lee said: “I am delighted to announce this investment in support for female offenders in Lancashire, which will help the local area to support vulnerable women and get them out of the cycle of crime.”

There were 62 applicants in total for the funding, with Surrey, Lancashire, Shropshire, Norfolk, Sussex, and Exeter winning a total of £800,000.
