Charity show filled with a feelgood factor

Schoolchildren brought the house down with renditions of everything from Uptown Funk to brass band classics at a charity concert.

More than 700 children from 18 schools across Wyre took part in the annual show, the Children’s Festival of Music, performing for an audience of more than 1,000.

Bands, choirs, dancers, soloists and even ukelele players performed numbers from musicals, Number One chart hits and Disney films at the show in Blackpool’s Opera House.

Millfield Science and Performing Arts College and Wyre schools worked with Hilton Blackpool to stage the show. Organiser Karen Oldroyd said: “This was a spectacular musical extravaganza for charity, with performances from Sound of Music, Les Miserables, The Lion King, La La La, Annie and many more.

“It gives the children such a feelgood factor, it was superb.”

Children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Fleetwood, kept up with the zeitgeist, singing Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ smash hit Uptown Funk. While St Aidan’s CE Technology College’s brass band played some more traditional numbers.

The children raised £7,500 for the Dame Maureen Thomas Foundation for Young People, formerly Hilton in the Community Foundation, to help local children’s charities.
