Charity's cat cams are the purrfect way to rehome pets

Everybody knows that cats and the internet go together like strawberries and cream.

Now an animal charity has seized on the potential of this pairing and gone high-tech in its bid to help rehome its rescue animals.

The Cats Protection National Cat Adoption Centre, Essex, has installed webcams in its rehoming centre so members of the public can watch the animals’ antics online.

The cameras have been fitted in one of the centre’s pens and will livestream the daily actions of its furry inhabitants on the charity’s website.

The charity hopes that by giving the public an insight into the daily lives of its animals it might encourage more people to adopt an animal from one of its rehoming sites.

Cats Protection’s Clare Kiernan said: “We’re always looking for ways to tell people about the many wonderful cats we have in our care throughout the UK that need a new, loving home.

“The webcams seemed like a brilliant idea to us, so people can see for themselves just how funny, charming and entertaining cats can be.

“The cat on show will probably change every week or so as the cats go to their forever homes.

“We hope to have some kittens in there soon - we did when we were trying this out and it was very entertaining.”

If the kitty cams prove to be a success the charity will roll out the scheme to some of its other centres.

Clare added: “We hope to scale it up and put cameras in other branches of the charity. Some of them are quite remote so it would hopefully highlight the cats there more.”

The cameras will be live from 8.15am to 4.45pm every day and can be viewed on the Cats Protection website.
