Charles all set for career as a Norland Nanny

Charles Lanzani has been offered a place at the elite Norland College, the internationally-renowned nanny training school that supplies childcare to a long list of royals, celebrities and the world’s wealthiest families.

The 17-year-old is the first student from Blackpool and The Fylde College to apply, let alone be accepted, to this prestigious college, where graduates include Maria Borrallo, nanny to Prince George.

Charles is due to complete his Early Years Educators diploma this spring and then it’s off to Bath to join their three-year BA Hons programme. As well as learning practical skills such as sewing and cooking,

Charles will also be expected to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism while wearing the very traditional Norland uniform.

Intriguingly he will also be trained in self-defence and skid panning.

“Depending on whose children you look after, you might have to deal with kidnappers, or need to escape a chasing pack of paparazzi,” he explained.

It’s certainly no run-of-the-mill job, but the level-headed youngster is far from star struck: “My ultimate goal is to find a family that I feel comfortable with, whoever they may be. I wanted to go to Norland simply because it’s the best in the country and it’s renowned all over the world for specialising in nannying.”

Charles is also un-fazed about entering a world hugely dominated by females – in fact, he is the only male student who has been offered a place on the course this year.

“It’s the same at the Giggles nursery where I work in Lytham,” he said, “but I don’t notice. I’m just passionate about working with children.

“I feel a great sense of joy and fulfilment when I am working and this is something I’ve always wanted to do.

“My tutors at Blackpool and The Fylde College gave me the confidence to take the next steps and apply to Norland.

“It’s a real honour to have been accepted and I can’t wait to get started.”

College tutor Deborah Audin added: “I am so proud of what Charles has achieved, all thanks to his on-going commitment and hard work.

“I’d welcome him back to college to talk to others about his experiences, in the hope he will be the first of many. The family who get him as a nanny will be extremely lucky.”
