Engineers will be moving existing track on the approach to Victoria station to connect it with a brand new section of line.

Arches supporting the railway are also being strengthened.

Services between Blackpool and Manchester Airport, calling at Oxford Road and Piccadilly are not affected.

Martin Frobisher, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “The closure is necessary to improve the rail network for passengers.

“Once the Ordsall Chord is completed, both Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly will be connected for the first time in history.”

The station will re-open on Monday April 4.
