Mr Eaves, a former leader of the council, represented Ansdell for the Conservatives for 11 years up to April when he stood down for health reasons.

He died in June.

Coun Dixon, a former Gazette news editor, who now works as senior caseworker for Fylde MP Mark Menzies, polled 715 votes to Mr Nash’s 272.

The turn-out 30 per cent.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been elected to represent the people of Ansdell and I will do my all to fight for the area.

“I have some huge shoes to fill; David Eaves was a true champion for Ansdell.

“I now look forward to continuing to work with councillors Richard Redcliffe and Ben Aitken to make good on our promises to press for funding for the area,”
