Some eight caravans have set up camp at the Seafield Road playing fields.

Fylde Council says it is working with landowners the YMCA to evict the travellers.

A spokesman said: “The council is working with the YMCA who own the playing fields to evict the illegal encampment,

“it is necessary to follow the due legal process to secure an eviction and every effort is being made to do this as quickly as possible through the courts.”

Fylde Coast YMCA said it has nothing to add to the council statement at this stage but confirmed that no sports was planned this weekend for the field, which is a busy venue for junior matches throughout most of the year.

The new football season starts next month.

The site is opposite Lytham Green, where the main stage is currently being set up for the Lytham Festival, starting there with a performance by Steps next Wednesday.

Long-time YMCA coach Lozz Rose said on social media: “Hopefully these disrespectful travellers will be gone by weekend but it’s the mess they leave behind which is the worry.”
