County is leading the way in quit drive

Lancashire is leading the way when it comes to people quitting smoking, it has been claimed.

Around 5,000 people across the Lancashire County Council area, which includes Wyre and Fylde, signed up to quit the habit as part of this year’s Stoptober campaign, according to local health bosses.

And that is an 11 per cent increase on the number who signed up to last year’s annual campaign.

And it means Lancashire County Council has generated the biggest sign-up rates to the drive of any authority in the North West.

Stoptober is a national campaign which is run each year in a bid to encourage people to quit smoking.

It aims to provide people with support and illustrate the dangers of the habit.
