Blackpool Magistrates Court

Nuttall, a 42-year-old painter and decorator, formerly of Park Road, Fleetwood, now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was sentenced to pay £609 compensation to the bookmakers by Blackpool magistrates who imposed no other penalty.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said Nuttall was playing on a roulette machine at Betfred, Lord Street, Fleetwood on January 11 about 9pm.

Nuttall was losing money and said “I’m going to throw a stool at the machine in a minute.” The manager knew Nuttall had had a drink and told him not to be daft.

Nuttall then picked up the stool and threw it. Nuttall told magistrates: “I have had a gambling habit of 11 years. I have lost tens of thousands of pounds.”
