A lottery winner was caught trying to steal face cream and perfume from a Blackpool shop.
Nicola Lord, 39, of Lytham Road, South Shore, Blackpool, who won £250,000 on a lottery scratchcard she bought in the resort, pleaded guilty to attempted theft.
She was sentenced to a 10 weeks curfew from 8pm to 7am and ordered to pay £40 costs plus £85 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates. Prosecutor, Martine Connah, said an assistant at the Savers store saw Lord in the shop on July 8. She recognised her and knew she had been banned from the store.
The assistant confronted Lord and found some Olay cream products in her possession. As the assistant called the police she saw Lord attempting to pull off the security tag from a bottle of perfume.
Lord said she had been in a haze and had not committed the offence intentionally.
Suzanne Mugford, defending, said her client had recently served a prison sentence for shoplifting offences. The day before she was released at the beginning of July the prison doctor changed the medication Lord was prescribed for mental health issues.
She struggled with that medication and described herself as being in a haze for days until her own GP altered the medication.
