Man in 20s dies after falling off Sainsbury’s roof in Blackpool

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with "serious injuries" after falling from the roof of Sainsbury’s in Blackpool, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police, ambulance, and air ambulance crews were called to reports a man had fallen from the roof of the Sainsbury’s store on Talbot Road at around 12.50pm today (May 7).

The man had "come off the roof" at the rear of the store, according to police.

Witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance behind the Blackpool Borough Council building, with police and ambulance crews located on Buchanan Street.

A man in his 20s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with "serious injuries", but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at around 12.50pm today (May 7) to reports that a man had come off the roof of Sainsbury's in Blackpool.

"Emergency services attended and the man, in his 20s, who has not yet been formally identified, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with significant injuries.

"He was sadly pronounced dead on arrival. Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones."

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time but police enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting log number 0657 of May 7.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance said: "We were called to the incident at 12.44pm today.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, two ambulances and an air ambulance to the scene.

"One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
