Damian Eichner, 25, of Lytham Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and failing to attend court.

Chrissie Hunt, prosecuting, said police were called to a report of a man headbutting dustbins in the resort’s Coleridge Road area.

Eichner had a wound on his head and police offered to help him, but he became so aggressive an officer had to draw his stun gun.

On the way to the police station Eichner was headbutting the cage of the police van.

At the police station he had to be fitted with a head guard to prevent him from further injuring himself.

David Charnley, defending, said that his client suffered significant mental health problems. Eichner had once been the subject of a Facebook and other social media appeal by police because of the concern for his wellbeing.

He had been trying to get himself admitted to a mental health hospital.

Eichner was fined £100 and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Rod Ross at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
