A man stole a bike in Lytham rather than face a walk back to Blackpool, a court heard.

Ian Dudman tried the doors to garages on Tewkesbury Drive, Lytham, before he found one containing a red mountain bike.

But he was seen riding the bike away from the house and police were informed.

Officers found Dudman, 37, of St Chads Road, South Shore, hiding behind a bush and the bike was hidden in a nearby alleyway.

Dudman was sentenced to 16 weeks’ jail by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates Court after he admitted burglary.

The judge was told that Dudman was being recalled to prison in any case because he had breached the terms of his release licence.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Dudman told police he had fallen asleep at a friend’s home in Lytham. “He said he did not want to walk all the way back to Blackpool because he has a problem with his feet.”
