A prolific house burglar who went on a two month break-in spree on the Fylde has been jailed for 32 months.
Carl Wayne Kent, 38, of Derby Road, North Shore, admitted a house burglary but had seven other similar offences taken into consideration when he was sentenced at Preston Crown Court.
This case is so serious only a custodial sentence is justified
Prosecuting, Jeremy Grout-Smith said Kent had broken into a semi-detached home on Forest Gate, Blackpool on March 10 while the occupier was not at home.
He was thwarted when an eagle-eyed neighbour heard him smashing a glass window and alerted the police.
Mr Grout-Smith said: “The homeowner left home to go to work. At 6.05pm the neighbour his house backs onto heard a loud noise and his wife heard the sound of smashing glass. He went up a ladder to have a look to see what was going on and could see a man crouching down by the rear patio door.
“He called police and carried on watching. He saw him walk to the side of the house and go out of view. He then heard smashing glass and could see the man run away from the side of the house.”
Kent had a pair of socks in his pocket – used to hide his fingerprints – when arrested at the house by police.
In interview he admitted the offence and other burglaries between January and March this year.
They include addresses on Kings Walk, and Cresswood Avenue in Cleveleys, in Devonshire Road, Samlesbury Avenue, Ludworth Road and Holyoake Avenue, all Blackpool, and on East Beach in Lytham.
The loot included laptops, XBox consoles and a Rolex watch.
Kent, who has 15 convictions on his record, served 54 months in 2001 for robbery, the court was told.
His defence lawyer said he had been a long-term heroin addict since the age of 13, but had managed to work in telesales for a while after moving to the resort from Liverpool with his mum to make a better life.
Sentencing, Judge Adkin said: “You’re a man with significant previous convictions.
“You were equipped for burglary to an extent.
“This case is so serious only a custodial sentence is justified.”
