Rape trial hears of accused's sex lies

Kering Sambou, 39, told police he had been in a hotel room with his first alleged victim, but denied intercourse, Preston Crown Court heard.

But when he was presented with DNA evidence from swabs taken from the woman, during a second police interview, he admitted he had sex with the woman.

Speaking from the witness box at Preston Crown Court, Sambou, of Park Road, Blackpool, said: “I still said I didn’t rape her. I had sex with her. I didn’t rape her. That is what I said, because I don’t rape her.”

Sambou is accused of raing two women - who do not know each other - in separate attacks in Yorkshire and Blackpool.

The first woman says she was attacked in a hotel room after a night out with Sambou and a friend in Huddersfield.

The three returned to Sambou’s hotel room at the Spring Grove Guest House, Kirkburton, where one of the women passed out drunk on the bed. Sambou told the court he walked the second woman home, an hour and a half away, but returned to the room to collect food and roll a joint, but when he discovered the woman partially naked, he had sex with her.

He then went back to her friend’s house, where he spent the night.

When Sambou was arrested on suspicion of rape, he said he had performed a sex act in the room, but denied he had sex with the woman.

He maintained that story until a second interview, several months later, when officers revealed the results of DNA tests taken from the woman in the aftermath of the alleged attack.

While he was on bail, a second woman came forward, claiming she had been raped at Sambou’s flat in Blackpool.

Police officers found her in the street outside his home, very distressed, and partially clothed.

He denies three counts of rape.
