A woman turned to crime in a couple of “moments of madness”, a court was told.

Rachel Chapman, who had no previous convictions, stole goods twice from the same shop.

Chapman, 30, of St George’s Road, St Annes, pleaded guilty to two offences of theft.

She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £19 with £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Chapman stole food from Tesco Express, St Annes Road West, St Annes, when she did not scan the items through a self-service till on June 27.

Two days later she took a bottle of wine from the same shop.

David Charnley, defending, said: “She said it was moments of madness.”
