A shoplifter declared to shocked staff he was going to steal an expensive item from the store – and carried it out shoulder-high.

Daniel Wright marched out of the St Annes branch of Boots with a £170 razor on August 29.

Wright, 38, of Glen Eldon Road, St Annes, pleaded guilty to theft.

He was sentenced to a three-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Steven Townley, defending, told magistrates Wright said he was ‘out of it’ on drugs at the time.

The offence took place when Wright went to collect a prescription for heroin substitute methadone.

Wright had returned to the shop and apologised. He had been allowed to continue to collect his prescription from that store.
