Street robber flees from OAP's husband after snatching her bag

The pair were walking behind The Friends of St Paul’s shop in Oxford Road when a man grabbed the bag and ran off towards the alley leading back to Woodlands Road, police said yesterday.

They have appealed for witnesses to come forward as they investigate the incident, which happened at around 11.20am last Saturday, and left the pensioner with minor injuries to her forehead.

They are also keen for those with CCTV cameras to check their footage.

PC Matt Cross said: “This was an appalling incident which has left the victim shaken. We are keen to stress this is an isolated incident and enquiries are on-going.”

The thief was described as a white man, wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, and trainers, police added.

A 55-year-old man from St Annes was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed until December 23.
