Thieves strike at town store

Thieves made off with bags full of cigarettes after they broke into a St Annes store in the middle of the night.

Police say they believe two people were responsible for the burglary at the Co-op store on Headroomgate Road.

The shop was closed while investigation work took place first thing on Friday morning, following the early hours raid.

The incident took place at around 2.40am police say.

It is not yet clear what the thieves’ haul was worth.

The two people responsible are now being hunted and police are appealing for information to help track them down.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “It looks like the offenders, potentially two people, have gained access through the rear door and got into the shop.

“They have then stolen two large plastic bags full of tobacco products from behind the till and made off undetected.”
