Two arrested after leaving scene of car smash

Two passengers and the driver of a car fled the scene of an accident after it smashed into a telegraph pole, say fire services.

The car went up in flames and crews from Bispham and Blackpool were alerted via a 999 call at around 10pm on Sunday, March 26.

Firefighters used hose-reels to extinguish the blaze which happened on Blackpool Road in Poulton.

All three occupants were later tracked down and treated for minor injuries.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue spokesman added: "A car hit a telegraph pole and the driver was seen to leave the scene. The car was on fire and two fire engines and crews, from Bispham and Blackpool, were sent to the incident. Firefighters used two hose-reel jets to extinguish the fire."

A spokesman for the police confirmed that two people were later arrested close to the scene in connection with the incident.
