A carer was told he had put his children’s lives at risk when he drove them home from a barbecue after drinking.

Simon Prestwich was found to be over the alcohol limit when police arrested him following a tip-off he was arguing with his partner in the garden.

Prestwich, 32, of Alexandra Road, St Annes, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £110 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

A breath test showed 51 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. Prestwich told officers he had been at a barbecue and had drunk three cans.

Magistrate, Carole Roberts, said: “You were putting your children’s lives at risk and other people’s.”
