A former student at a Fylde school has been propelled from the classroom to the ice rink to star in one of the world’s biggest shows.
Franki Johnson, a recent graduate of Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College in Worsley Road, St Annes, is to star in a year-long tour of the United States of America as part of the Disney on Ice Show.
Franki will star alongside some of Disney’s most famous characters, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Buzz Lightyear and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Franki said: “Ice skating in shows and seeing the world has always been ‘the dream’ and a dream can never be too big.
“I have been ice skating since I was eight and not for a second would I say it has been an easy ride.
“Through years of hard work, very early morning training, blistered feet and no Friday night parties, I have never given up and I finally have myself a dream job that I don’t have to call work.”
Franki, 19, completed her extended Diploma in Performing Arts in 2012, gaining a triple distinction grade.
She was accepted on a performance course at university, but made the hard decision to take a year out to focus on her skating and audition for professional shows.
The choice proved to be a wise decision, as she is now part of the biggest show of its type in the world.
A spokesman for Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College said: “This success is testament to her years of hard work.
“Her outstanding achievement at school was gained alongside regular early morning training sessions in Blackburn, often having to start her day at 4.30am before even arriving at college.
“An outgoing and responsible student, she will be remembered by many staff here for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth in our Lytham Hall production. To go from Shakespearean tragedy to Disney Princess is no mean feat and we are very proud of her. Congratulations to Franki from all at the school.”
