With New Year upon us, the organisers of the Run Lytham 10k race are calling on people to sign up in a quest to get fit.

In April 2015, the seventh St George’s Day Charity Festival will be here and a key event is the 10K Lytham Run, backed by The Express.

There’s plenty of time to get in shape and even if you’ve never run before, you can have some fun, fulfil your New Year’s resolutions and get fit at the same time.

The course is ideal for beginners and takes a picturesque route through Lytham past its iconic windmill.

Rachel Abbotts, from Lancashire Sport Partnership, the organisation that helps people get more physically active across the county, commented: “It’s not too late to start training for a 10K run.

“It only takes eight weeks to get race ready so with four months before the Lytham run, there is plenty of time to get fit.

“My advice would be to invest in a decent pair of trainers, have a training plan, take rest breaks between training sessions and make sure you stretch before and after each run.”

This year’s Run Lytham will take place on Sunday April 26 and for those who are in it to win it, there’s a £750 prize for the winner of the men’s race and £500 for the winner of the women’s race.

The patriotic theme of the race day is mirrored by the choice of charity partner.

All proceeds from the race will be donated to ABF the Soldiers Charity, which assists in the recovery and rehabilitation of injured war heroes.

Festival chairman Bob Gallagher said: “Run Lytham is fast becoming a key race in the running calendar.

“Last year we had more than 1,000 entries and for this year’s run an anticipated 2,000 people are expected to sign up.

“The day also includes a children’s fun run for children aged 8 to 14 so it’s perfect for a family spring break in one of England’s most attractive seaside towns.”

Race entrance costs £18 and all runners will have a chip-timed result and receive a finisher’s T-shirt and goody bag.

The closing date for entries is April 20, but places are already booking up fast so visit www.runlytham.co.uk to secure your place. Alternatively, call 07739997243.
