Major road in St Annes closed by sink hole
A main road in St Annes has been closed to traffic after a sink hole appeared the middle of the carriageway.
St David's Road North, which runs from The Crescent to Highbury Road, has been shut up to its junction with St Leonard's Road and diversions set up for traffic, including the No 17 bus route to Blackpool.
Barriers have been set up around the hole, which is between the junctions with Knowles Road and Grange Road and close to the access road to St Annes Health Centre.
Signs have been set up advising drivers of the diversion, which is via St Annes Road East and St Patrick's Road North, with only local access allowed either side of the obstructions.
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "The sinkhole on St David's Road North was reported to us on Friday and we attended immediately to make it safe. It's location means we have had to temporarily close the road for safety.
"Sinkholes are often caused by the ground supporting the road being washed away, and United Utilities are due to investigate to check whether there is any issue with their infrastructure."
