Fylde Euro MP Paul Nuttall will be among the guests attending a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on Monday at which the Queen and other senior Royals will be present.
Mr Nuttall, UKIP deputy leader, has written to councils throughout his North West constituency urging them to fly the Commonwealth flag on Monday.
He said: “I am pleased I have had a positive response from some of the local authorities as I believe it is such an important issue and particularly more so with the looming EU referendum.
“We need to leave the European Union and we will then be free to trade with our traditional partners, the Commonwealth countries.
“It is important we never forget that our friends in the Commonwealth are our kith and kin. We have a shared language, culture and heritage.”
