David Eaves has represented Ansdell ward since 2007 and led Fylde Council from 2010 to 2014.

His successor as leader, Coun Sue Fazackerley (pictured inset) said: “He will be missed for both his ability and his strong leadership and for the friendship he offered to his colleagues who held him in great affection.

“David joined Fylde Council following a long career in a senior managerial position at Blackpool Transport. He quickly became a cabinet member and eventually succeeded John Coombes as leader.

“His business acumen and managerial skills were very useful during his period as leader and Fylde Council flourished with him at the helm.

“He had a particular interest in the refurbishment of the Town Hall, ‘took the bull by the horns’ and went for the option to sell certain council-owned properties and refurbish the current building.

“At the recent opening of the Council Chamber, I paid tribute to this and he can take pride in a job well done and a decision well made.”

David declined to go into detail about the medical reasons which had prompted his decision but said he was proud of his time as leader as well as his 11 years representing Ansdell.

“We worked together to make the way Fylde Council was run the envy of many other authorities during my time as leader and I am very proud of that.” he said.

“I am also delighted at how we have transformed Ansdell with major improvements. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the council.”

A notice of vacancy in Ansdell has been posted and is set to be followed by a by-election in due course.
