Ex-paramedic appointed new ambulance boss

Former paramedic Derek Cartwright has been appointed to the ambulance service's top job in the North West.

Derek has been named as the new chief executive to succeed Bob Williams who retired in March.

“I’m proud to be given this opportunity to take the Trust forward and I’m looking forward to working together with staff and partners in the region to make sure we provide quality, compassionate care for our patients,” he said.

Derek, who joined the patient transport service in Greater Manchester in 1986 and became a paramedic two years later, has been working as interim chief executive for the past two monthe while the NWAS Trust undertook what it described as “a challenging selection process.”

Since March 2012 he has been working as director of operations. Prior to that he was director of emergency services.

Trust chairman Wyn Dignan said: “Derek has many years of experience and is a very highly-respected member of the NWAS team.”
