St Annes Carnival Queen Hannah Jeffrey with a letter received from Buckingham Palace after she wrote to The Queen

St Annes Carnival Queen Hannah Jeffrey wrote to Buckingham Palace to congratulate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her record-breaking reign and her forthcoming 90th birthday – and was delighted to receive a reply.

Hannah, an 11-year-old pupil of Mayfield School, has been busy since last July raising funds for this year’s Carnival charity the North West Air Ambulance and enclosed a cutting from the Lytham St Annes Annes Express, with our report and pictures of her crowning, to illustrate her immense pride in the role.

In an historic year for the reigning monarch, Hannah also felt she wanted to express her appreciation of all The Queen’s hard work – and pass on her best wishes for the future to Her Majesty and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh.

A reply from lady-in-waiting Susan Hussey winged its way back within a couple of weeks and has now taken pride of place in a frame at Hannah’s family home in Seaton Crescent, St Annes.

It said: “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your lovely letter and the newspaper cutting you have enclosed for Her Majesty to see.

“Although unable to reply to you personally, The Queen was interested to hear about your role as St Annes Carnival Queen and Her Majesty was pleased to learn you have been fundraising for the North West Air Ambulance.

“The Queen appreciated how thoughtfully you have expressed your support and is most grateful for the kind message of good wishes you sent to Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh.

“The Queen hopes you enjoy the remainder of your year as Carnival Queen.”

Hannah’s mum Rachel, who was herself St Annes Carnival Queen in the 1990s,
said: “Hannah was thrilled and so proud to receive the reply.

“She wrote the original letter was to tell Her Majesty about her role as St Annes Carnival Queen, how busy she is and how it has made her really appreciate just how much work is involved in being The Queen.

“She told her about the fund-raising for the North West Air Ambulance and that she hoped that The Queen and Prince Phillip are well.

“At the same time, she wrote to Prince William to ask him about his work as an Air Ambulance pilot – but hasn’t heard anything back from him yet.”

Hannah’s stint as St Annes Carnival Queen continues until the next Carnival, being held in Ashton Gardens on July 9 and 10.

The next fund-raising event of her reign is a Yellow Day at Mayfield School on Friday, April 8.

The most recent event, a fashion show at AKS, raised £500.
