Family fun day switched to this weekend

The RNLI's annual Family Fun Day at the St Annes lifeboat house has been switched to this weekend to coinicide with the annual Kite Festival.

Visitors galore are expected at the event, which runs from 11am to 4pm and will include a half-scale model of the Shannon Class Lifeboat which is intended to come to St Annes in 2018.

An appeal to raise £275,000 to ‘top up’ the £2.2m cost of the new lifeboat – which is being funded largely through a legacy by a long-time supporter – will be officially launched to the public at the open day, while the event will also include a host of staff, games and refreshments.

Live entertainment, tours of the current lifeboat Her Majesty The Queen and viewing of the inshore lifeboat Sally will also be features of the day, while vintage buses will link the Lytham lifeboat house with the St Annes venue on South Promenade.

RNLI spokesman David Forshaw said: “It is the first time the open day has been held on the same weekend as the Kite Festival and we are all very much looking forward to it.Both the lifeboat station and the Kite Festival organisers felt it would be mutually beneficial to hold the two events on the same weekend to offer more things for the public to see and do.”
