The festival, scheduled for August to coincide with the Olympic Games, is designed to reflect the wide range of cuisines available at restaurants in the town and Barbara Mackenzie, president of the Hotel Association of Lytham St Annes (HALSA) said: “It’s a great idea and I am sure it will be well supported.

“We have a brilliant range of restaurants in St Annes and this is a great opportunity to really make the most of that.”

The Festival, devised by the St Annes Enterprise Partnership (STEP) group of traders and businessmen to put the town’s range of culinary delights on the map, is the result of public consultations held last year and the hope is that it will become an annual attraction.

St Annes Town Council’s enterprise and promotions officer and STEP facilitator Darrel Treece-Birch said: “The idea is really to showcase the town’s wide offering of food and drink establishments, and more importantly to encourage locals and visitors to try out the plethora of dishes available.”

Darrel has designed a an eye-catching colourful logo, pictured here, to promote the Festival and added: “I wanted something that visually states just how many countries we have concerning our food offering, with China, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico. Morocco, Russia, Thailand and Turkey as well as Britain all represented.”

The first St Annes International Food Festival is set to run from August 5 to 21 and Darrel said: “We are still in the preparatory stages so there is still a fair amount of detail to be added but we hope to make this an annual event.

“The Partnership aims to supply all of the participating businesses with a vinyl window sticker.”
