Former Blackpool officer will be county's chief

Andy Rhodes has been confirmed as the next Chief Constable of Lancashire by the Police and Crime Panel for Lancashire.

The panel, which is made up of councillors from across Lancashire and co-opted independent members, met earlier in the week to consider the appointment of Mr Rhodes who is currently Deputy Chief Constable.

Mr Rhodes will take over from retiring Chief Constable Steve Finnigan who is the longest serving chief in the country.

Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said he was delighted with the appointment and was looking forward to working with the new chief to deliver the new Police and Crime Plan.

He said: “Andy brings a wealth of experience to the role. Lancashire is consistently one of the highest performing police forces in the country and I am confident the new Chief Constable will continue to maintain that position.

Mr Rhodes began his policing career in Blackpool in 1991. The search now begins for a new Deputy Chief Constable.
