French town link set to be sealed

Following a busy and successful trip to Caudry in northern France by a seven-strong delegation from the town’s Twinning Association, a reciprocal visit by the French will follow, at which a formal twinning link is expected to be signed and sealed.

The link with the French town, which is some 100 miles from Calais, comes 33 years after Lytham and St Annes established a formal liaison with Werne in Germany.

Twinning Association chairman Coun Tony Ford said: “We are delighted at the prospect of a new twin town.

“A delegation from Caudry’s Comitie de Jumilage (Twinning Association) has been invited to visit the Fylde later in the year and we hope to formalise our link at the same time.”

During the trip to Caudry, the Fylde delegation visited local lace factories and British war graves as well as attending the official opening of a photography exhibition with images supplied by Lytham St Annes Twinning Association Photographic Society and twinning members. A similar exhibition is to follow locally.

Joyce Regan, secretary of the Lytham St Annes Twinning Association, said: “My abiding memories of the Caudry visit centre around the superb hospitality, generosity, and friendliness of our hosts, plus the unexpectedly vibrant and forward-looking nature of a town that was once completely involved in the lace industry.”
