Carolyn Parkinson-Swift, 52, Lesley Nutter, 50, and Ali Gabbitas, 51, from Blackpool, and Lynn Gee, 61, from Wrea Green, were on The Mall to celebrate the life of the Queen – Britain’s longest reigning and oldest sovereign – in the national commemorations of her milestone anniversary.

They witnessed the traditional RAF flypast of historic and current military aircraft as well-wishers stretched from the iron gates at Buckingham Palace, cheering Her Majesty and her family.

The pals, who travelled to the capital on Thursday, also saw Princess Charlotte make her royal debut on the palace balcony, rounding off the Trooping the Colour celebrations.

Pomp and pageantry was the order of the day as the Queen, the Duke of
Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and wife Duchess of Cambridge Kate, and Prince Harry earlier took part in the monarch’s annual parade, which involved almost 1,500 officers and their men, and 300 horses.

The Royals – with the Queen in neon green taking centre stage – then took to the balcony to watch the flypast.

Ali said: “It was absolutely fantastic. It was worth it, even though there were thousands of people and we got a bit crushed. It’s surprising how emotional it can be.”
