A first fund-raising event for a rapidly-growing companionship group was a big success, generating £940.

Officials of Just Good Friends are hoping more will follow in the wake of the concert at St Annes Palace which attracted a sellout audience of more than 100.

Singer Kelly Hampson and swing band Switched On Swing provided the entertainment and the money will help towards the planned formation of a befriending service.

Just Good Friends has grown to more than 250 members since being founded in St Annes five years ago and it hosts a string of regularly social events, including in other parts of the Fylde coast such as Fleetwood.

Founder Bev Sykes (pictured) said: “The concert was absolutely amazing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“Thanks so much to Kelly and the band for giving up their time to support Just Good Friends - they were absolutely fantastic.

“I was totally happy with the amount raised and so grateful for lots of donations of raffle prizes from our members and local businesses.

“Massive thanks to everyone who helped and to the whole St Annes Palace team who are so dedicated in helping Just Good Friends and helped make our first fund-raiser the success it was.”
