Fylde Council new service launched for lost pooches

Fylde Council has announced a new service to return lost dogs to their owners on the same day they are found.

The Same-Day service, which launches this month across the borough, costs £30 and aims to help dog owners avoid more expensive kennel fees, as well as the stress of losing a pet.

A kennel for a lost dog currently costs £66-per-night.

Sarah Wilson, Fylde Council’s principal Waste Development Officer, said: “The kennel fees are recharged to the owner and can be quite a financial strain.

“The new system should save money and also hassle for the owner and their pet.

“We can’t guarantee returning the dog the same day as we might find it at night, but if geography and the wardens’ other duties allow, we will reunite the pet and its owner swiftly.”

A Fylde Council spokesperson added that dog and cat owners should make sure that their pet has a collar with a tag, and are microchipped with up-to-date contact information so that they can be returned home as soon as possible.
