Golden girls all set for pageant

For Kerry Capoverde, 26, and Kendall Rae-Knight, 21, have both reached tomorrow night’s showpiece final at the Norbreck Castle in Blackpool.

Kerry, of The Hawthorns, St Annes, said she entered the competition on the spur of the moment: “I won Miss Fylde Coast in 2010 and Miss Blackpool allows entrants up until you’re 30.

“Initially I went down to the Miss Blackpool heats to support a few friends involved. They thought I should give it a try and next thing I had entered the competition and won one of the heats.

“I am really excited for the final – it promises to be a great night.”

Kendall, from Newton, near Kirkham, took part in the final for the first time last year.

She added: “It has been nice to meet up with the other girls, as we had come through different heats.

“I’m really looking forward to the final now.

“It would really mean so much to me if I was to win – I would love to represent Blackpool.”

The showpiece final promises an all-round test of the girls, with four rounds, including a group 1920s Charleston dance routine, a swimwear round, evening wear round and fashion segment.

The finalists will then be cut from 16 to 8, followed by another on-stage interview, before the final three – and winner – are revealed.

Kerry, a teacher at Baines Primary School added: “Since the girls for the final were named, we’ve had a DVD night, where we’ve watched finals from previous years and had a photo-shoot at the Sandcastle. They are all really supportive.

“I’m not treating the competition too seriously, it’s just a bit of fun for me, but I know as a previous Miss Fylde Coast how much it means to people and what a great year it can be representing the area.
