Happy birthday Ma'am!

The beacon was one of more than 900 lit around the country on the evening of April 21 to celebrate Her Majesty turning 90 and Fylde mayor Coun Peter Hardy, who performed the lighting ceremony at Fairhaven, said: “It was a lovely evening – ideal weather and a great celebration of the Queen’s birthday.

“It was pleasing that so many people turned out to such a fantastic community event.”

Guest of honour at the event was Selina Bradley, who herself turned 90 on Monday. She was chaufferred to and from her home in Woodlands Road, Ansdell as she was treated like a queen for the evening – and she sported some eye-catching crown ear-rings specially for the event.

Coun Hardy added: “It was a delght to have Selina with me as the borough’s special guest and she enjoyed it hugely.

“People felt proud to be present at such a memorable evening – a lot of children were present and they will remember it for the rest of their lives.”

Selina, a mother of seven who also has 23 grandchildren, said: “I am very proud that I was born so close to The Queen. My husband Peter was also born in the same year as the Duke of Edinburgh and my mother in the same year as the Queen Mother and I have always followed the Royal Family very closely.”
