Huge exhibition on the Titanic sails into town
The biggest exhibition ever staged at Lytham's Lowther Pavilion is now up and running and continues until July 16.
The extensive display on the doomed liner HMS Titanic was opened by author Carrie King, whose grandmother Minnie Bastow was refused passage because she was heavily pregnant, with the child that turned out to be Carrie’s mother.
Minnie sent a telegram to her husband who was already in America but it arrived after news of the sinking broke and he didn’t open it, assuming she had drowned. It was three days before a friend opened the telegram.
The touring exhibition features a family tree showing the 42 descendants who have lived after Minnie was refused passage.
The exhibition is open daily from 10am.
