Blackpool Council is searching for the next Laura Trott, Adam Peaty or Max Whitlock with a special ‘I Am Team GB’ open day taking place at Palatine Sports Centre on Saturday.

The open day, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will allow families to try out a number of sports for free, including swimming, gymnastics, diving, cycling – and even the triathlon.

There will be toddler taster sessions in the pool for the youngest swimmers, while parents and grandparents can find out more about the low intensity and friendly Feel Good Factory.

Exercise classes like spinning, yoga or body combat are also available, as well as the chance to try out taekwondo and roller disco.

A state of the art Boditrax system will also be available for free for people to find out the makeup of the fat, bone and muscle around their body.

Coun Graham Cain, cabinet secretary for Blackpool Council, said: “Like everyone, I’ve been hooked by this summer’s Olympics and the overwhelming success of Team GB.

“It’s been incredible and it shows that whatever your background, hard work and commitment can help anyone to achieve their dreams.

“I’m a firm believer that somewhere in Blackpool is an Olympic athlete just waiting to be discovered so if you’ve watched the games and thought ‘I can do that’ then now is your chance to give it a go.

“Who knows, in four years’ time you could be on the flight to the next Olympics in Tokyo!

“The open day isn’t just about discovering elite talent however. The inspiration from the Olympic Games is enough to get people of all ages up off the sofa and carrying out some form of physical exercise.

“Exercise doesn’t have to be a chore. There are dozens of sports clubs around Blackpool that you can get involved in.”
