Investigation after fire at South Shore flat

A fire started in the bedroom of a  ground floor flat in South Shore, say fire services.

Crews from Blackpool and South Shore were alerted to the incident on Lytham Road near to the junction of Station Road just before 11pm on Tuesday.

Firefighters attended the scene and found the occupants of the flat were not home.

But a working smoke alarm alerted neighbours to the unfolding emergency.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Thankfully, there was no one in the flat at the time, so nobody was injured in this incident.

"We believe the fire started in a bedroom. Smoke alarms were fitted and sounded which alerted neighbours.

"We sent two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus into the property.

"They were able to extinguish the fire using a hose reel."

Firefighters say damage at the property was confined to the bedroom and the cause is now under investigation.

Crews spent around an hour at the scene.
