Lancashire’s ‘Hog hospital’ will reopen in near future

Janis Dean says the Lancashire Hedgehog Trust will officially reopen in the near future, after fears were raised by Fulwood hedgehog rescue centre that the service had gone, putting pressure on the two remaining ‘hog hospitals’ in the North West.

Janis said: “I have had to close temporarily, but I’ve still got eight hedgehogs in at the moment.

“And the centre has not closed for good.

“It’s very difficult to say no when someone brings them to your door.

“It’s a mistake to say we are permanently closed. We still need all the help we can get to look after hedgehogs.”

The Lancashire Trust, in Alisan Road, was set up to help the growing number of hedgehogs injured through close contact with humans.

The number of hedgehogs needing aid is increasing due to the loss of their natural habitat to developments in the countryside, and injuries caused by equipment such as garden strimmers.
