Howzat for a Club Day to remember? Kirkham and Wesham will be brought together on Saturday, June 11 by community spirit, live music and a rather important football match.

For the second year running Kirkham and Wesham Cricket Club will extend the annual Club Day festivities by hosting a live music event – KWCCFest.

Last year’s inaugural event brought huge numbers of people to the cricket club for an afternoon of live music and sunshine.

The club will not only repeat the open air live music this year – with six bands and solo singers set to appear on a specially constructed stage – but the club is also hiring a 12 sq m TV screen to show England’s opening Euro 2106 game against Russia.

Jason Oldfield, club chairman and organiser of this year’s event, said: “We started talking about how do we top last year and we thought with the England game in the evening we could do something different so we decided to hire a huge screen to show the game in a unique open air setting. Kirkham will really have seen nothing like this!”

The fun day, complete with a wide array of family attractions, will begin at 3pm - and the club is looking for businesses to provide sponsorship to help cover the costs.

Jason added: “It is costing us somewhere in the region of £10,000 to put the event on and we need to recoup that.

“We are looking for local companies – big and small – to advertise on the big screen through the day. All the money we raise will help the club, which is run and funded by some really dedicated volunteers.”

Club Day, which dates back decades, begins with the annual morning Church and schools parade (9am).
