It’s going to be a blooming great afternoon at Saturday’s Lytham Christmas lights switch-on.

Jim Leak, chairman of the Lytham In Bloom committee which last month celebrated being crowned Britain In Bloom Champion of Champions, will perform the switch-on ceremony, while a host of stars will entertain from a stage in the Piazza.

Father Christmas will parade through the town on the RNLI float from 3.30pm prior to taking to the stage ahead of the 4pm switch-on.

“It’s a great honour to have been asked to switch on the Christmas lights,” said Jim.

“It has been a fantastic year for Lytham in Bloom and what better way to celebrate by kick-starting our wonderful towns Christmas celebrations?”

On an afternoon organised by Lytham Proms promoters Cuffe and Taylor in association with Lytham Business Partnership, Fylde’s Got Talent winner Hana Joy, who last summer appeared on the same Proms bill as Rita Ora, will open the show at 2pm.

Lytham Community Choir, members of the cast of Lowther Pavilion’s panto Mother Goose, Rainbow Dance School, vocalist Peter Anthony, Britain’s Got Talent girl band Be Minor, Blackpool Brass Band, boyband Reconnected and Preston Musical Comedy Show Choir will all be part of the entertainment line-up and a fireworks display will immediately follow the switch-on.

Helen Vavoso, of the Lytham Business Partnership, said: “We are looking forward to a wonderful afternoon.”
