A businessman accused of causing his girlfriend to gash her head on a bedside table when he pushed her off a bed has made his first appearance at court.

Wayne Talbot, 29, of St Leonards Road East, St Annes, who operates a car spraying business, pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at an address the couple shared on Waterloo Road, South Shore, on July 11.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard at crown court.

Defence lawyer, Steven Townley, asked for bail for his client.

Talbot was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on August 12 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must live at his given address and not contact the complainant or go within 100 metres of her flat on Waterloo Road.
