Man returned to taking drugs after rehab

Mark Crabb had previously been in trouble with the law but he turned his life around eight years ago when he went into rehabilitation.

Crabb then got a job as a tram conductor and used his knowledge of the criminal justice system to help youngsters who got in trouble.

But his life fell apart following a family tragedy and he reverted to using heroin and cannabis.

Crabb, now unemployed, 41, of St Davids Road North, St Annes, pleaded guilty to two offences of illegal drug possession.

He was fined £40 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates who ordered the destruction of the drugs.

Prosecutor, Andrew Robinson, said on police called at Crabb’s address December 29, on a inquiry.

An officer then noticed a strong smell of cannabis and when the property was searched a cannabis cigarette and a wrap of heroin was discovered.

Rehabilitation

Gerry Coyle, defending, said Crabb had been no stranger to the court system, but in 2007 he went into drug rehabilitation and redefined his life.

Crabb got a job and used his previous experience of being in trouble with the law to counsel young offenders.

However, in the last six months a family member had died and Crabb’s relationship with his girlfriend ended.

This prompted him to return to drugs.
