Mayor's thanks after fund raises £25,860

Coun John Singleton has thanked the Fylde public for their support and generosity after his year as Fylde mayor saw more than £25,000 raised for the three mayoral charities.

The total of £25,860.77 is to be divided equally between the RNLI Lytham St Annes Shannon Appeal, the stained glass window appeal at St Luke’s Church, Staining and the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment fund at Weeton Barracks which helps families in times of crisis.

“My thanks to the Fylde community and everyone who helped us raise such a wonderful total – the support through the year has been marvellous,” said Coun Singleton.

He and his wife Geraldine, the mayoress, attended 291 mayoral engagements, with highlights including the mayor’s ball at Ribby Hall, Wrea Green in March,which raised £5,000.

Coun Singleton also introduced the Fylde respect awards, handing out certificates to nominated youngsters from school across the borough.

“Proudly representing Fylde, to the very best of our ability, we have met endless kind, generous people who selflessly give of themselves for the sake of others,” said Coun Singleton.

“We have been lucky enough to visit an amazing variety of places where we have been treated like Royalty, so very humbling.

“We have worked hard to make connections between people and organisations that will, hopefully, be mutually beneficial.

“We created 11 fundraising events all based on fun.

“Thanks to all at Fylde Council and especially our deputies, Coun Ray Thomas and his deputy mayoress Vivien Ivell.”

Coun Peter Collins took over as the new Fylde mayor at Wednesday afternoon’s annual meeting.
