Memories of Queen's 90 years celebrated

The Memory Hub at Lytham Primary Care Centre is celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday with an exhibition of her life - and officials feel it is distinctly appropriate.

For the exhibition, which runs until August 5, comes just month after the Hub, is operated by senior care specialists Home Instead, who were recently presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation in recognition of the quality of our home care delivery.

To mark that and to coincide with the Queen’s 90th birthday year, Home Instead is holding A Walk Down A Royal Memory Lane, a celebration of the Queen and the Royal family which includes memorabilia and souvenirs relating to her reign. It was officially opened by Fylde mayor Coun Christine Akeroyd.

The Hub, at the Primary Care Centre in Warton Street, is a free community resource designed to provide an environment where people experiencing the early stages of memory loss and dementia can look back on fond memories of yesteryear. It is manned by staff from the senior care specialists Home Instead, Lytham, Fylde and Wyre and the company’s community development co-ordinator Lois Pell said: “The features of the exhibition cover the Queen’s life from birth to Coronation to her 90th year.

“Among the many exhibits, many of which were kindly donated by family and friends of Home Instead, we have a souvenir official record of the Queen’s visit to Singapore in 1989, a 100th birthday telegram from the Queen, as well as some special commemorative dolls, kindly donated by their owners.”

Coun Akeroyd later joined Memory Hub clients at a tea party held to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and the Queen’s Award. The event included entertainment from singer Louise, a royal quiz, refreshments and a Last Night of the Proms-style singalong to finish.

The Queen’s birthday exhibition is open for anyone to view during the opening hours of the Primary Care Centre, 8.30am to 6pm.
